1. woman and men in the 20th century
In the 20th
century, the women stay at home to take care of the children and the house. The
women are under the influence of men. They don’t have a job because their job
is to take care of the house. The idea of a men doing the housework was not
possible because the women where there to do it. Society was built like this
and it was normal. Education was made so that the girls stayed at home and the
men went to work. The woman spend their day doing housework, take care the
children, cooking for the family,… they reproduced what their mother did. The girl’s
school was a housekeeping school. In 1969, the mixed school is imposed in
primary school and since 1975 the mixed school is obligatory in all school. The
objective of these laws was to give the same opportunities for girls and boys
to succeed. The school helped woman to change the image they had in society. With
time, the mentality change and the place of women is changing. Women fight to
change their social status. Their fights have consequence on the vision of the
housewife. At the end of the 20th century, there is an improvement
in the standard of living witch allows women to go to work. Men find it
difficult to do housework. For example, in 1999, women spent 3 hours and 30
minutes to clean the house whereas the men spent 2 hours. This inequality is
one gender inequality among many other.
